Course Selection Regulation

I.  Online Course Selection System

Students shall choose the courses desired wisely. Any course registration must be made in the Student Information System (SIS) within the stipulated timeframe. Before the course registration deadline, students shall check and “confirm” the result in SIS. Those who do not confirm online shall have their schedules as the last modification made in the Course Selection System.

 

II. Special Course Add & Drop Request

Students with reasons below may file special course add & drop requests. Request forms can be found in SIS after the deadline of course add & drop and such forms must be reviewed, signed, and submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA).

1.  Because the teacher submitted the transcript late, your prerequisite course has not been credited in the system and the course selection is blocked.

2. Application of credit transfer has not been approved during course selection period.

3. The approved courses lead to a conflict curriculum.

4. The approved course is cancelled.

5. Graduates who lack sufficient credits to graduate. *For the same type of courses held at the same time, the graduate will be assigned to the class that is not full.

6. International students who need to select additional English-taught courses.

 

**According to Paragraph 3, Article 2 of SHM Study Requirements for International Students: “With the approval (signing the course selection list) of the degree program director, graduate students may take up to 3 credit of courses offered by other departments and to be counted toward graduation credits.” If you would like to take courses offered by other departments, please submit the "Courses Offered by Other Departments Application Form"  to the program office before the end of the adding/dropping course period. (You may download the form at the end of the page.) 

 

III. Gradate Stduent Taking Undergraduate Courses

In addition to the basic credits required by the department, students in the master's program may elect to take relevant undergraduate courses for junior and senior of other departments for academic needs. After the applicant receives the approval from both departments, the credits will be acknowledged but cannot exceed 3 credits. Students shall select the desired courses within a stipulated timeframe.

 

*Please note that the scholarships provided by SHM does NOT cover undergraduate credit fees.

IV. Course Withdrawal

1. A course withdrawal should be completed within two weeks after the midterm exam.

2. You could only withdraw 1 course each semester. The total credits after withdrawal must not be lower the required credits for a semester. Students who extend the length of study should take at least 1 course after withdrawal.

3. Students apply for course withdrawal must submit a course withdrawal form, and such forms must be reviewed, signed, and submitted to OAA.

4. Withdrawn courses would still be printed on the official transcripts, and the grade column would show a “W” indicating a course withdrawal. The credits for a withdrawn course will not counted in the total number of credits taken.

5. The credits fees of withdrawn courses would NOT be refunded if you have paid the credit fees. Students who have not paid the fees must pay the amount prior to withdrawals.

 

V. Inter-School Course Selection

1. Students could only take inter-school courses  that are approved by their department..

2. Whether the number of credits taken in other scholhe should be counted in graduation credits is handled in accordance with the regulations of each department.

3. For inter-school courses taught in English, you can select the course directly in the Course Selection System.
