The Changes of Program Name

The Master Program in Smart Healthcare Management is now applying for its name change to the Ministry of Education. If the application is approved, the program would have the new name as “The Master Program in Artificial Intelligence in Application and Management” in Fall, 2026.

 

w   From “Smart Healthcare Management (SHM)” to “Artificial Intelligence Application and Management (AIAM)”

The reasons why SHM is transforming into AIAM are as the follows.

    Responding to the trend for AI development, the program aims to expand AI application from the original focus on healthcare to wider application, such as business, management and information technology, etc.

    This change reflects the university's vision of pursuing academic innovation and cross-disciplinary integration, as well as its mission to cultivate professionals who can apply artificial intelligence technology in a variety of fields.

    The teaching and research content of the program will be diversified, which will emphasize the ethical, social, and managerial aspects of artificial intelligence technology to ensure that students not only master the technical knowledge, but are also able to import, apply, and manage these technologies.

     

With the its name change brought with the transformation of SHM, there would be some influences on stakeholders of it, such as the faculties and students. Here are the details about the influences and the solutions to ensure the rights to work and learn.

 

w   Influence on the faculties

    Appointment of the Position

For the faculties who belongs to SHM, their appointments would be continued since their professionals still fits the appeals for AIAM, which emphasize the application of AI in various fields.

    Teaching

The course list for the required & elective for AIAM would be different from the one for SHM. Following the principle of emphasizing AI application in different fields, there would be some adjustment in the required & electives. Hence, some required courses related to healthcare management would be shifted into electives. However, most of courses offered by the SHM faculties have been related to AI, such as data mining, medical informatics, medical data analytics, etc. The SHM faculties could still offer these courses in AIAM and these would be taken as the electives.

    Research

The faculties would be encouraged to focus more on the research topics on AI application & management, which might also increase the possibilities of introducing both public and private resources for collaboration as well as for students’ professional development in the future since AI is one of the cutting-edge technologies in development now.

 

w   Influence on the current SHM students

    Courses

For those students who have studied in SHM program, the original criteria for courses taking & graduation still apply. They could remain taking the courses based on the original list for the required & electives, while 16 for the required and 8 for the electives, which would be 24 credits in total. Those required & elective courses for SHM would still be available until all the SHM students graduate.

    Graduation & Future Development

For the regulations on graduation, current SHM students remain must finish 24 credits for courses (16 for the required & 8 for the electives) and 6 credits for thesis, which would be 30 in total to meet the requirement for graduation.

As for the career development, current SHM students would remain receive the degree as “the Master of Health Administration,” they would be able to apply jobs for the positions involving management in various fields, such as the healthcare industries, medical suppliers, long-term care supplier, helping to managing data, making decisions or system development, or even in those healthcare insurance companies/consulting firms as the healthcare-related consultants, dealing product development or risk management.
